History
The World Board of Natural Medicine was founded in 2000 as per World
Health Organization Alma-Ata 1962 declaration.
Mission Statement:
1. Accreditation Standards
The World Board of Natural Medicine provides recognition,
registration, standards and accreditation for natural medicine and
natural medicine doctors and therapists worldwide.
2. World Unifying Organization
The World Board of Natural Medicine promotes and supports
international cooperation to achieve development in the natural
health field for all, and assists national organizations and
governments in agenda-setting and decision-making on natural
medicine issues at the global level. WBNM provides a broad range of
policy advice that serves as valuable sources of reference and
decision-making tools for developed and developing countries,
particularly in translating global strategy on natural medicines
scope of practice into national policies and action and in
monitoring progress towards the internationally agreed development
goals, including the Millennium Development Goals.
What is Natural Medicine?
The practice of Natural Medicine involves the preventative and
therapeutic promotion of health through natural, non-invasive means
including the assessment, differential diagnosis and treatment of
all aberrant body conditions.
As practiced today, natural medicine integrates traditional natural
therapeutics -- including botanical medicine, clinical nutrition,
homeopathy, acupuncture, traditional oriental medicine,
hydrotherapy, and naturopathic manipulative therapy -- with modern
scientific medical diagnostic science and standards of care. The
medical research base of naturopathic practice consists of empirical
documentation of treatments using case history observations, medical
records, and summaries of practitioners' clinical experiences.
Who are Natural Medicine Doctors?
A “Doctor of Natural Medicine” or “Natural Medicine Doctor” is a
Health Care Professional who is trained in science of physical
diagnosis and the combined therapeutic use or prescription of safe,
natural, non-invasive therapies such as Nutritional Medicine,
Botanical Medicine, Homeopathic Medicine, Acupuncture & Manual
Medicine. These medicines and therapies are aimed at enhancing the
body’s innate self healing ability so as to enable the patient to
regain and maintain optimum health.
What is a DNM®?
D.N.M. refers to “Doctor of Natural Medicine” or “Doctorate of
Natural Medicine”. It can also sometimes be interchanged with N.M.D.
referring to the inverted order, “Natural Medicine Doctor”.
A DNM® is a health care practitioner who utilizes a system of
drugless, non-invasive medicines in which only natural substances
and techniques are used, including but not limited to nutritional
and dietary therapeutics; phytotherapy (botanical / herbal remedies)
and vegetable minerals; electrotherapy, as a natural environmental
force; Mechanical therapy (massage, manipulation etc); remedial
exercises, mineral therapy and biochemical therapy (the use of
natural minerals and cell salts) hydrotherapies in all forms and
homeopathics (a dynamic use of mineral and plant extracts)
The core philosophy of the DNM® is the prevention of disease and the
stimulation of the natural healing processes of the body to
re-establish homeostasis when the body is in a state of
disequilibrium and disease.
